Chiropractic Gilbert AZ Benefits After Age 50

As a Gilbert AZ chiropractor working in one of the hottest cities during the summer, Dr. Heidi Chiropractic totally understands why you’d want to speed up your morning run outside before it hits 90 degrees. However, one thing that can cause harm or injury is increasing your intensity/pace when it’s already hot out.

Maintain Summer Time Fitness in Gilbert AZ

Here are some other tips from your Gilbert chiropractor Dr. Heidi Chiropractic to help you maintain your fitness goals in a healthy way:

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day. Though this seems like common sense, it’s worth repeating. People should drink half of their body weight in ounces of water daily. And if you are active, you should be drinking more. For example if you weigh 150lbs, you should be drinking a minimum of 75 ounces of water. Since our summers are very hot and you’re losing body fluids as you exercise, increase your intake. Foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and celery contain water and are a nutritious way to help you hydrate, too.
  • If you must exercise outside, do so at the coolest parts of the day. Otherwise, consider moving your workout inside – to the gym, mall, or a roller skating rink. If you need inspiration at home, search YouTube and online fitness magazines for indoor workout ideas.
  • Wear light-colored, lightweight, loose clothing if you choose to exercise outdoors. And don’t forget the sunscreen!
  • This Gilbert chiropractor has said it before - listen to your body. Stop your workout if you’re feeling faint, dizzy, nauseous, and or in pain.
  • Replenish electrolytes and salt intake while exercising. If you buy it in capsule form, you can skip the sugar found in most sports drinks.
  • If you are new to working out, get checked out by your physician and Gilbert chiropractor first. Dr. Heidi Chiropractic can assess the shape you're in and help you with exercises that are right for you.
Even very fit athletes have trouble exercising in heat and humidity. If you want to exercise outdoors and haven’t started, acclimate yourself first. Start with 5 to 10 minute increments. Then, add more time as you get accustomed to the temperature outside.

Staying in shape or getting in shape is always a good idea. You just want to make sure you're doing it properly...especially when the temperatures in summer are soaring. Taking good care of yourself is important.
